The Pear Sparkler

Updated: Jan 10, 2020

I think I have got to that age where the reason for going out is no longer a race to get as drunk as possible. That age was probably a few years ago if I am honest but its never too late to start and you can never have too many attempts at trying.

That being said, about 18 months ago, we were invited to Shropshire to stay with some very dear pals for the weekend. I was tasked with making cocktails - a common request - but this time they were to include booze-free versions. I was thrilled with this little pear number as its sweet, sharp, refreshing and gives one a real lift. I was also incredibly proud that my normal drinking buddies were guzzling them back quicker than the boozy Pineapple Margaritas. It was only months later, after the births of two babies that I did my calculations and realised it was the unborn children who were steering the drinking decisions...

Oh well, I really rather like this drink, and I will be drinking a few more over the next couple of weeks... Pear juice can be tricky to find, but I found a lovely one in a larger supermarket, so keep your eyes peeled

Ingredients. Makes 1, so double up to be sociable...

100ml Pear Juice

Juice of half a Lemon

1/2 tsp Caster Sugar

Ginger Ale

Method

1. Add the Pear Juice, Lemon Juice and Sugar to a long glass 2/3 filled with ice and stir to dissolve the sugar

2. Top up with Ginger Ale

3. Top with slithers of fresh Pear. Thats it. Simple. Now enjoy it!
